Ο καθηγητής Lars Baerentzen σπούδασε κλασική και σύγχρονη ελληνική φιλολογία στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Κοπεγχάγης, όπου και δίδαξε νέα ελληνική και βαλκανική ιστορία έως το 1987. Έχει δημοσιεύσει πολλά άρθρα για την ελληνική ιστορία της δεκαετίας του '40. Το 1982, επιμελήθηκε το έργο των J. M. Stevens, C. M. Woodhouse, και D. J. Wallace "Βρετανικές εκθέσεις για την Ελλάδα, 1943-44" και συνεργάστηκε στην έκδοση "Μελέτες για την ιστορία του Ελληνικού Εμφυλίου Πολέμου 1945-49". Ετοιμάζει έναν ιστορικό άτλαντα της σύγχρονης Ελλάδας, σε συνεργασία με τον J. M. Wagstaff.
